At one time Lychees were imported from China at very high prices. This has changed, many lychee orchards have been established in northern Thailand.
Several varieties of the fruit are currently grown in Thailand. They are characterized by a sweet taste with a faint trace of tartness. The color of the fruit ranges from pinkish to dark red.
Lychees come to market fresh between April and June but are always available in cans.
