The indian head insignia of the Lafayette Escadrille was used on the side of their aircraft.
Lufbery spent almost four years in the French Air Service and theLafayette Escadrille before joining the United States Air Service as an instructor.
The Escadrille Lafayette had served on practically every battle front in France during World War One.
