Pulpe moved to France in 1912 where he pursued an interest in aviation. He received a civilian Pilot's Brevet on December 19, 1913. Pulpe enlisted in the French Air Service at the beginning of the war. He was assigned to MS23 on May 1, 1915, where he scored his first two victories after his Escadrille was re-equipped with the Nieuport 11. Pulpe later served with the 10th Fighter Detachment of Imperial Russian Air Service, becoming an ace on July 1, 1916. He was fatally wounded in combat a month later.
